生活を芸術化した本阿弥光悦と、革新的な画法を生んだ俵屋宗達に端を発し その100年後、尾形光琳や尾形乾山らによって円熟期を迎えた琳派。 いにしえに範を求めながらも、それを脱する試みに力を注ぎ、江戸時代の美学を決定づけた。 新しいメデイアや金箔を使った襖絵、狩野派の技法をも取り入れ展開する 冒険心あふれる作家たちは「現代の琳派」という名がふさわしい。 Originating with Hon’ami Kōetsu and Tawaraya Sōtatsu, the Rinpa school reached its peak after a 100 years. While drawing inspiration from the past, they broke free from tradition to define Edo period aesthetics. These adventurous artists embraced new media and gold leaf and incorporated Kano school techniques to become worthy of the name “Contemporary Rinpa.”
