磯部 光太郎 Kotaro Isobe
1970年東京都生まれ。1997年東京藝術大学大学院日本画修了。2008年Biotopをテーマに制作を始める。2010年「Art Award Next」審査員賞受賞。2016年アート台北、2025年三越日本橋本店にて個展開催。2021年絵本『ふきの はのうえに』（福音館書店）原画制作を担当。
Born in Tokyo in 1970, he graduated from the Graduate School of Japanese Painting in 1997. In 2008, he was first inspired by the biotope concept. Awarded the Jury Prize at the Art Award Next in 2010, he has held solo exhibitions at Art Taipei in 2016 and the Mitsukoshi Nihonbashi main store in 2025.

「Biotop（生き物が棲息する場所）」が僕の作品のテーマです。人間の生活圏にも四季を通して棲息している小さな生き物や植物をモチーフに、日本画の古典的な技法で自分らしく現代的に表現しています。
絵の構想は、鳥や昆虫、水辺にはカエルや亀などがたくさん棲息し、季節の花が美しく咲く庭園（ガーデン）の絵を楽しみながら、カフェでゆっくり過ごして欲しいという想いからイメージを考えました。
絵は6場面あり、それぞれ独立した絵ですが、全体を通しても１つの大きな絵になっています。2～3月早春の丘にフキノトウやタンポポが咲きだし、ツグミのつがいがいる絵から始まります。3～4月桜は満開を迎えメジロがひょっこり顔を出している。4～5月池には燕子花(かきつばた)が咲きだし、草亀が甲羅干しをしている。5～6月岩にはコケやシダが生え、水面には睡蓮が咲きだし、枯れ枝には1羽の美しい青色のカワセミ。7～8月蓮の花が咲き、白鷺が1羽佇んでいる。フキの葉の近くには雨蛙が遊んでいる。最後は9～10月ぶどうの葉が色づき、その甘い実を食べにヒヨドリやアシナガバチが遊びにくる。
どの絵にも、よく見ると小さな虫や鳥などの生き物が隠れています。見つけて楽しんでくれたら嬉しいです。
The theme of my work is “biotope” (a place inhabited by living creatures). The work depicts small creatures and plants throughout the four seasons rendered in my personal modern style using traditional Japanese painting techniques.
The work consists of six independent paintings that form one large painting. We start with a pair of thrushes and butterbur flowers and dandelions blooming on a hill from February to March. From March to April, cherry blossoms bloom, and a warbling white-eye peeks out. In April to May, irises bloom, and a turtle basks in the sun. From May to June, moss and ferns grow on the rocks, lotus flowers bloom on the water’s surface, and a blue kingfisher perches on a dead branch. From July to August, a white heron stands alone while a frog plays nearby. Finally, from September to October, grape leaves change color, and brown-eared bulbuls and giant hornets come to eat berries.
If you look closely, you will see small insects, birds, and other creatures hiding in each picture. I hope you will have fun finding all of them!
