八重原 豊巳 Toyomi Yaehara
1953年長野県生まれ。東京藝術大学美術学部名誉教授。1982年第12回パリ・ビエンナーレ（パリ市立近代美術館）、2005年「VOICE OF SITE」ニューヨーク展（SVAギャラリー）など、国際的展覧会に多数出展。本襖絵の制作では、画姓を本名の保科豊巳ではなく、故郷・長野県の地名である「八重原」とした。
Professor emeritus at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the Tokyo University of the Arts, he has exhibited at numerous international exhibitions, including the 12th Paris Biennale in 1982. For these sliding screen paintings, he dropped his real surname (Hoshina) to adopt the surname Yaehara, the name of his hometown in Nagano Prefecture.

《抱かれた松の図》、この謎めいた題名は「自然の四季の時間の中に咲き誇る花々や鳥の懐に抱かれた松の図」の意味です。
松図は多くの芸術家が描いていますが、初めて描く日本画です。描き初めてから私の長野のアトリエにある松の木を毎日観るようになりました。なるほど枝打ちの跡の幹、松葉の針のような線をひたすら描きます。雉は室町時代の画家の作品を参考に、細密にしかも1mmもないほどの極細面相筆で一筆一筆重ねていきます。気が遠くなりそうなほど時間がかかります。狂気の時間が3か月もかかり仕上がりました。
The Embraced Pine Tree is my first Japanese-style painting of a pine tree. Since starting it, I've been observing the pine trees in my studio every day, persistently painting the pruned trunks and needle-like lines of the pine needles. The pheasant was created with reference to the works of Muromachi period painters, meticulously layering each stroke one at a time using an ultra-fine brush less than 1 mm wide. It took an insane three months to complete.
