上田 剛 Tsuyoshi Ueda
1986年奈良県生まれ。2010年金沢美術工芸大学工芸科卒業。2012年東京藝術大学美術工芸科修了。2025年現在、金沢美術工芸大学工芸科 金工コース鋳金 講師。2021年「国際工芸アワードとやま」入選、2022年「第38回淡水翁賞」最優秀賞。ヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート博物館に作品が収蔵されている。
Born in Nara in 1986, he graduated from the Kanazawa College of Art in 2010 and completed his studies at the Department of Fine Arts and Crafts at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 2012. Awarded the Grand Prize at the 38th Tansuiou Award Exhibition in 2022, his works are in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum.

布や紙がリズミカルに重なり合うような形状をイメージし、ブロンズの鋳造により作品を制作しました。表面に見られる色や模様はブロンズ特有の錆によるものです。
銅の錆の主成分は、銅の原料となるマラカイトなどの銅鉱物と同じものになります。つまり金属が錆びるということは、表面から鉱物の状態に戻ろうとする作用であるといえます。
私の扱う金属の着色技法は、そのような性質を用いて金属の表面を鉱物化させて色を得る技法です。この作品は、金属という素材に流れる時間の積層と、名古屋の歴史ある土地の記憶の積層を重ねて、その積層が鉱物のように具現化したようなイメージで制作しました。
I created this piece in bronze, inspired by the rhythmic overlapping of cloth and paper. The colors and patterns on the surface are due to the rust that is unique to bronze.
The main component of the copper rust is the same as the raw material for copper. In other words, when the metal rusts, it is actually returning to its mineral state starting from the surface.
This work was created by layering the accumulated time flowing through the metal material with the accumulated memories from the historic land of Nagoya and envisioning those layers solidifying like minerals.
