西川 雅典 Masanori Nishikawa
1968年北海道帯広市生まれ。1991年北海道教育大学札幌分校塗装工芸研究室卒業。1992年「工芸都市高岡クラフトコンペティション」グランプリ、1995年「朝日現代クラフト展」優秀賞受賞。1997年東京藝術大学大学院美術研究科修了。2019年「LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2019」ファイナリスト。
Born in Obihiro, Hokkaido, in 1968, he won the Grand Prix at the Craft Competition in Takaoka in 1992 and the Excellence Award at the Asahi Modern Craft Exhibition in 1995. He graduated from the Graduate School of Fine Arts at the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1997. Finalist in the LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize in 2019.
光の器 Vessel of Light

空間に柔らかなゆらぎをあたえ、それでいて周囲の光を集める。そして室内へ再び解き放つ「膜」のような存在。そんな器をイメージして制作した。
その光は月明りのように、穏やかなもの。月は陽光を反射させ、まるで地球の間接照明であるかのようである。そしてそれは姿を浮かびあがらせ、命を映し出す。光がたたえる一瞬一瞬は、記憶となり、その一つ一つの重なりが日々を紡いでいく。
作品は、人と空間、光と時間を繋ぐ媒介となり、装置のようなものであれたらと思う。
作品の素地は脱乾漆の技法で制作した。脱乾漆は、原形に漆で麻布を貼り重ね、硬化後に原形を取り除く、古来、仏像等にも使われている伝統的な技法である。表面には和紙を漆で貼ってテクスチャーを生み出し、金属粉を蒔いて表情を得ている。
It gives the space a soft flicker, yet gathers the light around it, then releases it back into the room as from a membrane. This was the image guiding me in creating this piece. The light is gentle, like moonlight. The moon reflects sunlight as if it were Earth’s indirect lighting. It brings shapes into view and reflects life. Every moment of light becomes a memory, and each overlapping memory weaves together the fabric of our days.
I want my work to serve as a medium to connect people and space and light and time. I created the base using the dakkanshitsu traditional technique of pasting cloth onto the surface with lacquer and then removing the original form.
