三原 研 Ken Mihara
1958年島根県生まれ。「茶の湯の造形展」大賞。第1回菊池財団海外研究助成金によりイタリア滞在。「第1回パラミタ陶芸大賞展」準大賞。2007年度日本陶磁協会賞。作品集『土の記憶』（求龍堂）。メトロポリタン美術館、ヴィクトリア・アンド・アルバート博物館など約40館に所蔵。
Born in Shimane in 1958, he studied in Italy on a research grant. He received the Grand Prize at the Chanoyu-no-Zokei Exhibition, Second Prize at the 1st Paramita Ceramics Grand Prize Exhibition, and the Japan Ceramic Society Award in 2007. His works are on display in approx. 40 museums.

私は生まれ育った出雲で、地元の土を使い炻器の造形作品を作っています。炻器とは、高温での無釉の焼き締め陶器のことです。紐作りで形成した後、約50時間の還元焼成を2回行っています。
この炻器の作品は、2008年のニューヨーク個展からスタートした《起源》と名付けたシリーズの作品です。
シンプルでプリミティブな造形でありながらモダンさも感じさせます。その気配、質感は原初的な出雲の風土から生まれてきたもののように思います。
Born and raised in Izumo, I use local clay to create stoneware (unglazed pottery fired at high temperatures). After the pieces are shaped using the coiling technique, the works are reduce-fired twice for approximately 50 hours.
This piece is part of the series called Origins, which began with a solo exhibition in New York in 2008.
These stoneware pieces are simple and primitive in form yet exude a modern feel.
