中臣 一 Hajime Nakatomi
1974年大阪府生まれ。大分県竹田市在住。1999年早稲田大学商学部卒業。2001年大分県立竹工芸訓練センター修了。竹藝家の本田聖流氏に師事。2006年ボストン美術館「Beyond Basketry: Japanese Bamboo Art展」に出品。2025年「次世代バンブーアート賞」コフランド最優秀賞。
Born in Osaka in 1974, he graduated from the Waseda University School of Commerce in 1999. After studying at the Oita Prefectural Bamboo Crafts Training Center in 2001, he apprenticed under bamboo artist Honda Shoryu. He was awarded the Cofland Grand Prize at the 2025 Next Generation Bamboo Art Prizes.

古来、邪気を払う神聖な植物とされてきた竹で、縁起の良い「8」の形を作り、それを積み重ねることで、ここに集う方々の幸せが連なるようにとの願いを込めた作品。「言祝ぐ」という言葉から着想を得ています。
尾張徳川家が合印として用いていた「〇に八の字」の印は、名古屋市の市章にも「まるはち」として引き継がれており、数字の8をモチーフとしているこの作品は、この場所にふさわしいと思います。末広がりで幸せが永遠∞に続くことを願って制作いたしました。
形態は、舞い上がる龍をイメージしており、8の段数を積み重ねることで、壁面作品ではありますが、より立体感と躍動感を持たせています。
名古屋城の金のシャチホコは龍の頭を模していますが、ここにも竹の龍がいることを認知いただけると幸いです。
This work is made from bamboo, long considered a sacred plant that wards off evil spirits, shaped into the form of an “8”(an auspicious number), and then stacked to express the wish for the continued happiness of all who gather here. The work was inspired by the Japanese word “kotohogu” (celebration). The circle with an eight, used by the Owari Tokugawa family, is now the emblem of Nagoya.
Stacking eight layers gives this work, whose shape resembles a soaring dragon, a sense of depth and dynamism. The golden shachi (mythical lion-shaped carp) of Nagoya Castle is modeled after a dragon’s head, and I would be delighted if people realized that there is a bamboo dragon here, too.
